Eagles Drive Beach Access

The Challenge?

Build a thirty metre, 77 step, custom aluminium staircase for beach access at Eagles Drive Park.

The Crux?

You’ll be building on very steep terrain in a heavily trafficked urban area during wintertime conditions.

Comox Valley Regional District contracted us to manage and build a new beach access staircase at their busy Eagles Drive Park. The steep hillside building site required a unique custom design that blended in nicely with the surroundings. The project priority was to give safe beach access to their community, allowing residents of all ages and fitness abilities access to their local beach. Spanning thirty metres, involving six landings and six flights of stairs, the custom aluminium stairs and landings were all decked with Red Cedar.

Crews worked in inclement weather to pour foundation and install the staircase during wintertime conditions. It’s a well-loved and well-visited park within the Comox Valley Region so we had a tight timeframe during the off season for installation to take place. Careful planning was put into the procurement process to ensure all materials were ready to go. Any work that could be completed off site would be in order to speed up the build. Guest safety was imperative, and crews made sure the engineered design was installed meticulously with careful attention to detail in every aspect of the build.
